Fire Making

2 days

The scope of this class will include hands-on experience with one of the most basic personal survival skills - - making fire without matches. You will be taught how to make and use a bow-drill, one of the most effective natural firemaking tools. The objective of this class is to enable you to walk into the woods with no matches or lighter and make a fire.
Your experience will include:
    * Knife skills and safety
    * Making cordage from natural fibers
    * Selecting wood to make the bow-drill
    * Preparing various types of natural tinder
    * Constructing a tipi fire
    * Fire maintenance and safety



Natural Shelter

2 days
4 p.m. Friday through
1 p.m. Sunday

This class teaches the skill of making the one shelter that will protect you in wind, rain, sleet, snow, and temperatures down to below zero. The objective of this class is to enable you to walk into the woods and build a shelter which will protect you in even the most adverse weather conditions.
Your experience will include:
    * Understanding hypothermia
    * Making your own debris shelter
    * Spending the night in your shelter




Survival
     This class requires that you
       have previously taken:

       Fire Making & Shelter Building

3 days
4 p.m. Thursday through
1 p.m. Sunday

This class puts it all together.Your survival camp will be made on Friday, becoming your home for the rest of the weekend. And new skills will be included into the experience. The objective of this class is to experience the integrity of setting up your own natural camp, and to more fully understand what it really means to live with the Earth.
Your experience will include:
    * Making your own shelter & using it two nights
    * Making and setting up traps (no animals will be taken)
    * Making your own friction fires
    * Cooking your own meals with fire
    * Foraging for natural edible plants
    * Water purification methods
    * Making and using baskets & water containers


The Quest

8 days
